What To Wear: Freshen Up Your Basic Black Suit

-

Have an old suit hanging in your closet? Perk it up and make it look new again by adding bright pieces and accessories! While suits are an easy fashion solution they do have their drawbacks. Tailoring and quality often come at high price tags, so many of us can not afford to have many of them. Another drawback, suits can often be boring. Even if you have only one black suit in your closet, there are still several ways that you can get “more dash from your cash”. Instead of wearing that basic button-up pinstripe shirt with your suit; swap it for a bright blouse, perhaps something with patterns or ruffles. Accessories also play a key part in turning up the volume on a basic suit. Purchase bright accessories, handbags and shoes to instantly bring new life to that old suit!

Beauty File: Love in a Bottle Sinful Colors

So as of lately, I have done something, in my opinion, completely outlandish and totally ditched my gel nails! I have consistently sworn by nail silk wraps (nothing long or audacious – just a simple short and classic french manicure) for four solid years. That’s four years of bi-weekly fill-ins and four-week wraps (to keep nails healthy; yet I’m not sure for what exactly…) with no hesitations or questions. I challenged myself a couple of weeks ago to get rid of the nails and embrace a no-frills classic manicure. In the quest to enjoy my new found nails I have been on the hunt to find some fun nail polish colors. I’ve searched low and high, from drug store to department store, and to my dismay found nothing to write home or in this case blog about. I had almost given up all hope, when today on an unexpected visit to WalGreens I ran into the most exciting collection of nail colors. The Sinful Colors line by Mirage is completely fabulous! Not only are the colors luminous, the prices are outrageous (just $2.50 a bottle – no kidding!). Plus the colors are high-quality and quick drying. Need I say more? I recently picked up the colors “What’s Your Name?” “Rich in Heart” , “Punk Rock Purple”, and “Jupiter”. Check out the Sinful Colors website at www.sinfulcolors.com to view their latest confessions…

Style Staples: The High Waist Pant

Investing in just one definitive piece this season? The high waist pant will certainly cement your fashionista status. High waists are officially “IN” and gone are the days of crack baring low-rise pants (hip-hip-hooray!). The silhouette works for a variety of body shapes because it appears to smooth out pooches, thanks to the slanted lines stretching down from the waist to the lower belly. Plus, high waist pants usually have wider legs, a look that creates a long leaner silhouette. Versatile, the high waist paint is perfect for day or night. During the day try denim styles with fitted knit shirts or turtlenecks. In the evening, high waist trousers look elegant with silk blouses or halter tops. These pants also function well in the office with classic-fittted button-ups, knit shirts and blazers. High waist panta are most flattering when worn with stilletos or peep-toe pumps. To complete the look top it off with some bold accessories such as an embellished belt or a long necklace.
